Lessons for the Edexcel 2017 specification- Covers the whole Pressure Groups part of the Democracy topic.
Includes case studies and examples as well as many activities, videos and tasks. Worksheets also included.

Edexcel ALevel Politics
USA Politics
Includes retrieval task to sort formal and informal powers of Presidency and a detailed breakdown of US Informal and formal powers of the POTUS.
Examines the role of the US Vice President and US Cabinet (updated as of 2024) includes examination of Trump and Biden CAbinet and covers the nature and powers of the Cabinet as well as other basics e.g. frequency of meetings etc.
Includes a picture sheet of the Biden Cabinet and two brief video tasks (youtube links included on slides).
I have also included some similarities and differences to UK Cabinet for analysis as we go but have a comparative lesson at the end of the topic.
Edexcel Politicsc ALevel Paper 1 Feedback
Note: This mock exam feedback and modelling is for the 2023 Paper but for Questions 1a/b and 2a/b only as I don’t teach Ideologies.
This feedback powerpoint has common mistakes and key content for the exam questions 1a/b and 2a/b including a full modelled paragraph using the PEELE structure with clear evaluation and mini judgments.
Also includes a purple pen response sheet with the modelled paragraphs to highlight and then space to write their own / example conclusions.

Very detailed and no need for any additional resources although can be set as independent work with textbook but all info is contained within resources so no need to own the Bennett book- if you don’t have it ignore page references in the teacher notes.
This lesson has a lot of resources, more than enough for 2 hours of lessons (probably 3 hours if you include video tasks) plus homework and there is a 12 mark exam question for Edexcel included.

Edexcel ALevel Politics Component 3 USA Politics Comparative
Topic 4 Supreme Court and Civil Rights
This is my Introduction lesson to the Court and key terms e.g. Stare Decisis, Loose/ Strict Constructivism and Originalism.
Includes a key profile of the current court for a research homework and how they ruled on key cases e.g. Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Board of Health and New York state rifle assoc. v Bruen which cover key aspects of the divisive issues in the USA today e.g. abortion rights, gun control, voting rights, immigration and campaign finance.
All the SCOTUS cases I cover are useful case studies for other topics due to the synoptic nature of the ALevel course, this helps students to join the dots.

Component 3 USA Comparative Politics
This is lesson 2 in my Unit on the Supreme Court and examines the nature of the nomination process, factors which influence the President and strengths and weaknesses of the process. Examines how independent the SCOTUS is and arguments for and against.
Includes case studies on nominations of Amy Coney Barrett and Ketanji Brown Jackson for students to research, key examples from the past 75 years, video links to explainers/ examples and an essay plan on the question:
Evaluate the view that the nomination process for the Supreme Court is fit for purpose. The essay plan is part completed for students, they have to use their knowledge from the past few lessons to complete it.

Introduction lesson to Voting Behaviour and the Media
This lesson introduces students to the concept of studying voting behaviour and examines factors which may affect voting behaviour.
The idea is that students are then given case studies to produce and present on an individual election.
Includes powerpoint on intro lesson which covers 1979 and 1997 key case studies as an overview of what happened in each election. Debate on the question “1979/1997 elections were lost by the government rather than won by the opposition” examination of Valence Voting and brief introduction of other theories.

This mega 2 hour lesson plus hwk examines how powerful the POTUS in the USA is for the key debate to end Topic 3
Includes retrieval of past knowledge re: President, note taking and discussion about unilateral actions of POTUS and limitations of these. Discussion/ ranking task of factors which can hinder/ help a POTUS achieve aims and a debate/ table of arguments about how imperial a President is alongside the discussion of whether a President may be described as Bifurcated.
Also includes a colour code sheet for homework and a comparative task to prepare them for thinking about comparison to Prime Minister.

This builds on work we have done on Pressure Groups in the UK and the previous lesson which examined the rights legislation development in UK (students made a timeline from the textbook of the major legislation passed and court cases.
